Alhagie Mbowe, the National Assembly Member for Upper Saloum, has donated D50,000 to the University of The Gambia Students’ Union (UTGSU) to support its scholarship initiative.

The donation is earmarked for the union’s tuition support programme, which assists deserving students struggling to pay their fees. The UTGSU covers 40 percent of semester tuition—the minimum payment required for students to register their courses.

Traditionally, the initiative has been offered once a year. However, for the first time, it is now being extended to both semesters of the academic year, doubling the support available to students.

Hon. Mbowe’s contribution has been described as significant by the UTGSU, which issued a statement recognising the gesture as “a strong demonstration of Hon. Mbowe’s commitment to youth empowerment and academic advancement.”

The union also expressed profound appreciation for the timely intervention, noting Mr Mbowe’s continued dedication to the welfare and development of students at the University of The Gambia.
