Addressing young people during the associations congress held at the Kafuta early childhood development center on Sunday, Musa Darboe told young people that safeguarding unity will benefit generations even yet to be born. "We must all stand for the advancement of our community and youth in decision making, is a right and not a privilege," he said.
The congress was administered by the Kombo East Youth and Children Development Alliance (KEYCDA) youth committee.
Mr Darboe who released a song on youth in decision making to inspire youth in taking active participation in decision making, said young people must not wait for other people to make decisions on their behalf but they must do it themselves.
Village Development Committee chairperson, Malang Jatta said since they came into office, his committee has been actively supporting young people, starting with a project to fence the community football field.
He assured that they will continue to support activities and interventions of young people in the community, adding they will now include the youth chairperson in the VDC membership.
James Mendy, one of the young people of the community said youth must be empowered and a conducive environment provided to them to enable their participation in the development of their communities and the nation. "Youth must understand their values and responsibility because they are not only future leaders but also leaders of today," he said.
