The donation, facilitated through the efforts of Hon. Modou Lamin Bah, National Assembly Member for Banjul North, marks a vital contribution to improving educational infrastructure for local students in the area.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mrs. Isatou Jallow, Chairperson of the Banjul North Community, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Bah for his unwavering commitment to his constituency.
She also praised his efforts in securing the donation, crediting his connection with the Turkish Embassy and his dedication to community development.
“Even if we didn’t vote for him in the last election, we’ve seen his work and we are fully behind him now. We stand with Modou Lamin Bah day and night, and we will vote for him again in the next elections because he has proven to be a true servant of the people.”
Another community leader, Mr. Modou Jallow, speaking on behalf of local youth, lauded the MP’s efforts hoping the young people of Banjul North would recognise the importance of the lawmaker to enhance welfare.
“Anytime we face a problem, we reach out to him, and he never turns his back on us. He is in office not for himself but for the people,” Mr. Jallow stated.
Mr. Oğuzhan Ba (Oba) of the Turkish Embassy emphasised Turkey’s commitment to supporting the development of The Gambia.
He acknowledged the strong and growing relationship between the two countries and assured of their continued support for projects that improve lives at the grassroots level.
“This donation was made possible through the support of Mr. Dennis Elverir, Managing Director of Green Energy for Africa,” Mr. Ba revealed. “When Hon. Bah explained the situation at Noor Islamic School and how students were sitting on the floor, Dennis didn’t hesitate. He immediately promised to help and he delivered.”
Mr. Dennis Elverir, speaking through a statement, expressed his joy in being part of the initiative. He emphasised the Islamic principle of sharing and giving, noting that acts of charity bring eternal rewards.
“This is just a small start, as there is more to come. I am committed to supporting the people of The Gambia in any way I can.”
Hon. Modou Lamin Bah, visibly emotional during his remarks, thanked the Turkish Embassy and Mr. Elverir for their swift and heartfelt response to the community’s needs.
The donation, he added, was not a surprise to him as he trusted in the goodwill of his partners.
“Today I feel both joy and deep emotion,” Hon. Bah said. “This is not politics. This is service. I will continue to stand by my people because they are the reason I am in Parliament. I will never let them down.”
