In what marks a historic milestone for the Gambia Ferry Service, Team Innovation has officially launched its maiden campaign ahead of the first-ever elections for the Gambia Ferry Service Staff Association (GFSSA), promising a new era of inclusive, transparent, and welfare-driven leadership.

Running under the theme-“Empowering Staff, Enhancing Welfare, Building a Better Future Together,” the campaign began on Monday, 27th October 2025, and will continue until 4th November, while members will cast their votes on 6th November 2025.

Led by Sulayman Sanyang, the team’s nominated presidential candidate, Team Innovation is contesting against Team IB Sanyang in what is seen to be another defining moment for staff representation within the institution.

The launch event, held at the Ferry Services headquarters in Banjul, was described as a remarkable milestone that signifies growing staff empowerment and institutional transformation.

In his manifesto speech, Sulayman Sanyang outlined his vision to transform the GFSSA into a “people-centered association that prioritizes staff welfare, promotes fairness, and advances professional growth through innovation and collaboration.”

He promised that if elected, he will reintroduce staff loan schemes, including vehicle, building, consumer, and special loans to support employees’ financial needs.

He also promised to launch an annual Staff Award and Party to celebrate excellence and foster unity among employees.

Sanyang also announced plans to establish health and medical coverage for all Ferry Service staff through partnerships with provincial hospitals and clinics to ensure full medical treatment coverage.

He emphasised the need to improve staff housing, particularly by advocating for staff quarters in provincial stations, and to create a safe, fair and motivating workplace for all categories of employees.

To strengthen team spirit and recreation, Sanyang further pledged to form a Ferries Football Team that would actively participate in May Day Sports and other inter-staff events.

Salimatou Njie, unopposed vice-presidential candidate for Team Innovation, reaffirmed her commitment to serve with “integrity, transparency, accountability, and dedication.”

She described the workplace as more than just a place of employment, but “a community where every voice matters, every contribution counts, and every individual deserves respect and recognition.”

Salimatou pledged to work closely with the president, executive team, and all members to foster a transparent, inclusive, and supportive work culture, ensuring that all staff feel valued and motivated to thrive both personally and professionally.

“I will be a strong and consistent voice for staff concerns at leadership meetings and ensure equal representation across roles and departments,” she said.

The General Manager of The Gambia Ferry Service, Fabakary Manka, commended both teams for their professional approach to the campaign, assuring them of management’s full support throughout the process.

He noted that the initiative reflects a maturing workforce and management’s commitment to empowering employees through representation and dialogue.
