Tankong Kunda women gardeners in Sami District, Central River Region North are appealing for a borehole for their garden. According to them, they are seriously affected by water shortage which is affecting their agricultural production.

They said that most of their onion and okra beds have perished due to lack of water. The women added that they have not recently been engaged in gardening due to lack of water.

Mafulo Dibanneh, a gardener pointed out challenges faced by the community, noting that their only source of water at the garden is a local pump.

She described the garden as very important for them, noting that they use part of the harvest they make from it for family consumption and sell the rest and use the money on household needs.

She therefore appealed to government through the Ministry of Agriculture, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and philanthropists to support them with a borehole.

Sarjo Dampha, also a gardener pointed out their challenges, noting that they are ready to do gardening year-round provided they have adequate water supply at their garden.
