Yonna Group, a hundred-percent Gambian company that comprises four business entities, has announced massive discounts on fees for local money transfer and in-country cash transfer via Yonna Wallet as well as on prices of basic and essential commodities across the country to support its customers and average Gambians.

The Yonna Group comprises Yonna Forex Bureau, Yonna Islamic Microfinance, Yonna Islamic Insurance, Yonna Enterprise and Yonna Wallet.  The company, owned and managed by a Gambian, has over 300 employees. It specialises in financial transaction, sale of essential products, and insurance business.

The massive discount offered by the people-centred business aims to support Yonna Group’s customers as well as to help average Gambians in this holy period of Ramadan and Lent.

Delightfully, Yonna’s massive price markdown includes 80% discount on local money transfer fees, 0.5% fee for all in-country cash transfer via Yonna Wallet and a discount on prices of essential commodities such as rice, sugar, cooking oil and other edible goods.

Speaking at a news conference on Monday at Yonna Headquarters at Tippa Garage, Momodou Barrow, general manager for Yonna Group, said: “In the spirit of Ramadan and Lent, we are thrilled to offer a spectacular promotion of 80% discount on fees for our local ‘saaying saaying’ customers, providing extra support during this holy month.

GM Barrow says the financial institution is setting standards in affordability with the lowest cash transfer fees in the market.

“Starting now, enjoy a minimal 0.5% fee for all in-country cash transfers via Yonna Wallet and receive money at any of our 148 branches throughout The Gambia free of charge,” he encourages the people.

“Since its launch, Yonna Wallet has revolutionised the digital finance landscape, offering a secure, straightforward and reliable way to handle money transfer and bill payments.”

Mr Barrow said Yonna is now expanding access of its exceptional services, adding that Yonna Wallet users could benefit from free cash withdrawals at over 148 Yonna Wallet locations throughout The Gambia available from Monday to Saturday between the hours of 8 a.m and 6 p.m including public holidays.

“More than 15 Yonna branches open on Sundays in the country,” he assures the public, saying customers could use the Yonna Wallet by withdrawing money from their Yonna Islamic Microfinance accounts and transfer it to any Yonna Forex Bureau branches across the country.

This, he explains, is to ensure customers access their Yonna Microfinance accounts even if the microfinance entity is closed.

He also said customers could also use the Yonna Wallet to purchase goods such as rice, sugar, cooking oil and other items from Yonna Enterprise as well as access Yonna Islamic Insurance.

Yonna procurement manager Sushed Chander Badala says Yonna Enterprise has “very affordable and accessible foodstuffs” for the public.

“The enterprise sells a bag of rice at D1,900 and a bag of sugar at D2,750 to all shops across the country despite the distance,’ he added, saying these prices are very affordable compared to other business entities.

“Transportation for a bag to the provinces is costing us about D65; despite that we maintain the same price in all parts of the country,” he substantiates.

In his presentation on Yonna Wallet, Malick Gibba, head of IT, said Yonna does not compromise security of the wallet. “The digital finance is well secured, safe and reliable,” he affirms, saying: “We make sure whoever is interacting with the App is the owner of the account. The app is well secured.”

The IT specialist further informed that the Yonna Wallet service is rendered in partnership with all Gambian banks. “Customers can transfer their money from the Yonna Wallet to their bank accounts safely,” he said. “We will process the bank transaction safely within two days.”

Yankuba Mamburay, Managing Director for Yonna Islamic Microfinance, said his financial institution is registered and has been regulated by the Central Bank of The Gambia.

“Yonna Islamic Microfinance has branches in many parts of the country and where it is not available, customers can use the Yonna Wallet for financial transactions,” he said, underscoring their commitment to working with all and sundry to enhance social and economic development.
