The widening of the 22km Bertil Harding Highway was among key priority projects earmarked for the successful hosting the 15th OIC Islamic Summit held on the 4-5th May 2024 in Banjul.
The highway features a dual carriageway of three lanes on either side, three overpasses and ten roundabouts. The USD 96 million project was jointly funded by the Government of The Gambia, the Islamic Development Bank, Kuwait Fund for Economic Development and the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA).
Since its completion, Bertil Harding Highway has enhanced the movement of goods and services, significantly improved traffic flow, and has improved the urban outlook of the country.
Phase Ill of the project, which will consist of approximately 42.8 km of paved service roads equipped with essential road furniture as well as the construction of an overpass at Sukuta Jabang roundabout will improve the traffic flow of the corridor. The successful implementation of the service roads will also boost the country's economy and promote easy access to residential and commercial amenities.
The Government of The Gambia reassures the public of its commitment to the social, economic, and infrastructural development of the country.
