The donation was facilitated through the help of his Gambian friend, Alhagie Alieu Jarju, who expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the donor to fulfill this annual undertaking for several years.
According to Jarju, the gesture would go a long way in alleviating the hardship households face in meeting their food needs for their families, further praying for the continued prosperity and well-being of the donor.
Present at the event was the Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, Ebrima Sillah, who lauded the gesture as something well appreciated especially in the month of Ramadan.
The gesture, he went on, is being extended to the Muslim population in the country in order to show support and solidarity.
“As a government, we recognised the people who are the final beneficiaries of the gesture deserve it because the government cannot do it all. I therefore thank the philanthropist for his humanitarian assistance and the Gambian embassy in Qatar for facilitating in ensuring that the gesture is extended to the beneficiaries in the Gambia.”
Alhagie Sillah Conateh, programme coordinator at the Management Development Institute recalled that this is the fourth time the Qatari has extended support to the needy people in The Gambia especially during Ramadan.
“The project initially benefited the communities of Salikeni and Jammeh Kunda in the Central Baddibou District and now it is extended to a large number of beneficiary communities across the country.”
He also recalled the invaluable interventions of the philanthropist in The Gambia in the areas of building Masjids and Quranic memorization centers, providing sponsorships and distributing food items to the needy.
Babucarr Dibba, on behalf of the beneficiaries, commended the donor for the foresight.
