The training, held at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara Conference Centre in Bijilo, seeks to expose participants to key audit terms, audit process/cycle, public sector audit types, as well as practical exercises on audit reporting. One of the main aims was to develop a media reporting handbook in the long term for use by media practitioners in the country.
In his opening remarks, Modou Ceesay, auditor general, disclosed that the training would significantly foster interactions with the media regarding basic audit reporting, thus increasing the visibility of the NAOs audit reports.
“We understand that the media sometimes doesn’t comprehend our audit reports well. This is why we organised this training to bridge the gap, thereby increasing awareness and benefiting the citizenry. We hope this will contribute to building the capacity of the media on the report of the Audit.”
Ceesay urged participants make best use of the knowledge gained and allow it reflect on their work to avoid misinformation.
Arret Jatta, a participant, who doubles as assistant Secretary General of PRAG, acknowledged that she had never attended such an important training on audit reporting.
She spoke highly of the training, further expressing her resolve to collaborate more for future opportunities to help build the capacity of others.
