Nyang Sanneh Institute pays homage to late Prof. Mbye Cham at film premiere

The Nyang Sanneh Institute for Social Research and Justice (NSI) recently paid tribute to the legacy of the late Prof. Mbye Cham with a film premiere on Comrade Ebou Madi Sillah.

The movie premiere on Comrade Ebou Madi Sillah was held at Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Centre in Bijilo on Monday, 29th December 2025.

The event was part of NSI's efforts to promote social justice, peace, and development in The Gambia.

Prof. Abdoulie Saine, Executive Director of Nyang Sanneh Institute, recallled the life and legacy of the late Professor Mbye Cham, highlighting his significant contributions to knowledge empowerment.

The Institute, he added, was aimed at addressing social issues like religious extremism, ethnic polarisation, and community conflicts through research and dialogue.

Prof. Saine also outlined NSI's commitment to producing knowledge and informing policy to improve lives.

He maintained that the institute for Social Research and Justice (NSI) is looking forward to collaborate with national institutions, policymaking bodies, and community organisations.

"Our plan is to offer mentoring and career counselling services to students, young faculty, and academics, to build capacity and drive social change in The Gambia," he stated.

Mr. Baaba Matarr Sillah, a family friend, equally paid tribute to the late Ebou Madi Sillah, describing him as one of Africa's greatest artists and great thinkers.

"This was said during the film premiere event honoring Ebou Madi Sillah's legacy, also commemorating the late Professor Mbye Cham".

Hon. Ousman Sillah, a brother to Ebou Madi Sillah also shared similar insights into the life of the late Ebou Madi Sillah, giving a personal perspective on his legacy.

He reminded that by working together with local institutions, NSI can amplify its impact and create opportunities for young people to develop their skills and pursue their passions.
