The event featured guest speakers, poets and other dignitaries from various walks of life including Her Excellency, Fatou Bom Bensouda.
At the event, Fatou Binta Sallah, programme manager for NSI, said the lecture was initiated to provide critical insights and foster a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in alignment with international justice standards with the unique realities of societies like The Gambia.
She added that the theme seeks to explore the evolving nature of culturally sensitive approaches in justice and human right initiatives.
“It also aims to contribute to the institute’s goal of promoting social justice, peace and stability particularly as Gambia is on the path of pursuing accountability and justice for victims of human rights violations.”
For her part, Her Excellency Fatou Bom Bensouda, High Commissioner for The Gambia in UK, reminded that international laws, upon which the global society rests, seeks to establish norms and standards that transit borders.
“It is a beacon of hope that guides nations towards cooperation, diplomacy, and resolution of conflicts.” she said.
She, nonetheless, reminded that the effectiveness of international laws is deeply intertwined with the local dynamics of individual nations.
The Gambian diplomat acknowledged that the challenge lies in reconciling the universal principles of justice of local context, further urging the cooperation of nations and individuals to promote justice across the globe.
Professor Abdoulie Saine, executive director of NSI, who had earlier welcomed the audience, thanked and restated that Nyang-Sanneh Institute is committed to promoting justice and human rights in the country.
