This development followed a recent week-long working visit by Prof. Pierre Gomez, Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Prof. Gomez during the trip had meeting with the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja, who expressed their commitment to providing a consultant to develop the Ministry’s Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy.
According to the ministry, the ECOWAS Commission, through its Piloted Youth Internship Program, has also assured that it will train students through TVET internships for one year in The Gambia, covering the students’ stipend for the one-year internship.
On the sideline of the Nigeria trip, Minister Gomez also had engagements with TITA Universal Services LTD in Abuja, an IT digital firm based in Nigeria that provides AI-powered timetables to Schools, Tertiary Institutions and Universities and enhances entrepreneurial and innovation support to businesses.
The ministry advanced that one of their core functions is to provide an AI-generated timetable to students, help University administrators to monitor the workload of each lecturer and train students on entrepreneurial skills.
The mobile application also allows students to do their course registrations, access their CGPA, send their assignments and hold academic discussions. TITA assured Minister Gomez that the site is very secured and protected and will be at no cost to students and Institutions in the country.
After these engagements, Prof Gomez has also invited TITA to The Gambia to do the launching of the mobile application for the benefit of Tertiary and Higher Education Institutions in The Gambia.
