
The event highlighted the remarkable achievements of Gambian women in various fields, including the military, education, healthcare, politics, and business.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Habibatou Drammeh, minister for Basic and Secondary Education, who represented First Lady Fatoumatta Bah Barrow, praised women for their roles, recognising their strength and determination.
Minister Drammeh acknowledged that Gambian women have made remarkable contributions across various sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, and politics.
“Their resilience and dedication have driven national progress, empowered communities, and inspired future generations. From serving in the military to leading in governance, women have proven that courage and leadership know no gender,” she outlined.
She also cited the remarkable contribution of women in areas such as education and healthcare, noting that their work in agriculture ensures food security and economic stability.
However, she observed that with all these efforts, there is still work to be done.
“We must accelerate efforts to support women by ensuring access to quality education, skills training, and financial resources. Empowering women leads to sustainable development, peace, and security,” she emphasised.
Moreover, the Basic Education Minister spoke about women’s commitment to uplifting one another, fostering an environment where every woman can realise her potential, and making gender equality a reality in The Gambia so as to create a future where every woman and girl can thrive and lead.
The celebration featured an exciting parade with women from the GAF, Police, Immigration, Prisons, and other sister security services like Senegal, Nigeria and Ghana, along with civil servants and various women’s groups.
The event included powerful engagements that showcased the strength, progress, and ongoing fight for equality among women in different work groups.
Also, participants enjoyed every bit of the event such as push-ups and drilling competitions, with winners receiving mobile credit from Africell as prizes.
