As part of its broader advocacy to raise awareness on human rights and its related issues, the regional out-stations of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in the North Bank and Upper River Regions recently conducted series of community engagements in rural communities on the aforementioned topic.

The week-long community engagement also sought to expose participants to Government White Paper, which represents Government's position on the recommendations of the TRRC as well as their proposed implementation plan.

The target categories in these two regions, included traditional and religious leaders, women groups and youths.

Addressing participants at Fass Njaga Choi village, North Bank Region, Alhagie Joof, Alkalo, while expressing gratitude for the initiative, maintained that the initiative would provide invaluable insights and knowledge on human rights and how those principles are essential in fostering peace and justice in their communities.

"I am committed to ensuring that the knowledge gained at this meeting is shared widely within my village to promote greater understanding and harmony." he added.

Elsewhere in parts of URR, the proceedings took similar form attracting villagers including representatives from the Village Development Committee (VDC).
