The Gambia is the first country to join the ADRIFI program across the entire continent.
The objective of the Programme is to enhance The Gambia’s resilience and response to climate shocks through improvement and management of climate disaster risks. The specific objectives of the Programme includes: (i) strengthening the country’s capacity to evaluate climate-related risks and costs, and elaborate subsequent adaptation measures at both national and sub-national levels; and (ii) promoting initial financing for disaster risk transfer solutions.
The workshop was geared towards pairing economic growth and stabilisation with reducing vulnerabilities by protecting gains achieved in all sectors from severe weather-related shocks by linking early warning, insurance and contingency planning to prepare for, manage and finance natural disasters.
Mawdo Amadou Jallow in his remarks said, the workshop was meant to look into the diagnostic report that was put together by Centre for Disaster Protecting. He added that there was a capacity building training session within the program.
The workshop was officially opened by the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs on behalf of his minister.
