NALOA officials embark on nationwide tour

Officials of the National Livestock Owner Association (NALOA) led by its president, Ebrima O Jallow has embarked a nationwide tour aimed at engaging and getting firsthand information on issues affecting farmers and their animals.

The five-day tour also seeks to discuss with cattle farmers some of the achievements made thus far, challenges and carve a way forward.

At a meeting held in Wuli, Upper River Region, Ebrima O Jallow reminded farmers about the aims and objectives of the association, which he said, are to fight against all forms of criminal activities in the area with a top priority focus on cattle theft and other related crime operations.

Since the formation of the association, he maintained that significant achievements have been registered in various areas.

He thus called on farmers, who are yet to join the association, to come forward as the association seeks to empower members and thus protect their animals, properties and lives.

He outlined some of the achievements registered by the Wuli Cattle Farmers Association especially in curbing cattle rustling in the area.

To this end, he challenged farmers to be mindful of bushfires and always work towards the protection of the forest cover.

Giving financial and activity report of the association, liaison officer Muhammed Jallow, presented on the financial gains made by the association and the recovery made by organizations in terms of missing animals from last year to date.

This, he added, is a commendable move and thus thanked members for their efforts.

Demba Jallow, Secretary-General of the Cattle Farmers Association, highlighted some of the challenges the association is encountering which include lack of commitment in paying registration fees to other administrative costs.

Mama Kandeh, leader of the Gambia Democratic Party (GDP), who was one of the guest speakers, commended the Cattle Farmers' Association for their contribution and quest towards the improvement of livestock in the country.

Kandeh indicated that going through the financial report, the association is complimenting the work of the government and thus curbing cattle rustling and other related crimes in the country.

While calling on the government to provide the necessary support to the association, GDP leader equally calls for the prosecution of perpetrators of cattle rustling to reduce the menace in the area.
