
The ten-days religious gathering is expected to end on May 5th 2025 in the Senegalese town of Madina Gounass.
The Daakaa was initiated over seven decades ago by the late Halif General, Alhagie Muhammad Saidou Ba, and founder of Madina Gounass. Since his demise, he was succeeded by his son, who is now the current Halifa General of Madina Gounass, Alhagie Thierno Ahmad Tidian Ba.
However, this religious gathering referred to as “Daakaa” is widely regarded as a sacred and blessed place not only in Senegal as a nation but beyond.
As the proceeding progresses, Muslims are urged to embrace unity and see each other as “one family” under one umbrella following the teaching of the Holy Prophet, Muhammed SAW.
Meanwhile, this religious gathering also serves as a platform where Muslims are reminded of their true purpose their creation, thus calling on them to follow the right path.
At the opening ceremony, Thierno Ibnou Oumar Ba, while welcoming the Muslim congregation, equally urged them to take advantage of the time spent seeking Allah’s blessings.
He thanked the government of Senegal for efforts in providing security throughout the event.
Equally, the vulnerable religious leader (Thierno Ibnou Oumar Ba) urged the youth to stay away from drugs, describing the ‘Daakaa’ a no-smoking zone. “We have zero tolerance for drug use.”
Representing the president of Senegal, His Excellency, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, Muhammad Mustapha Ndiaye, Governor of Kolda Region, thanked the Halifa General for his exemplary leadership and assured him that the Senegalese government will at all cost continue to provide the necessary security.
He spoke of the government continues stance to promote and celebrate the country’s religious leaders, adding that Halifa General’s presence and leadership contributes significantly to the peace and stability of Senegal.
“We at the government level have high respect and love for the Halifa General and family.”
Governor Ndiaye further urged the Halifa General to offer prayers to the government and the nation and the entire Muslim Ummah, while wishing him longer life with good health.
