The MoU seeks to strengthen collaboration with the two institutions to ease transportation of goods and services for enhanced consumer protection. It is also geared towards ensuring effective and efficient consumer protection.
The MoU further seeks to complement the efforts of relevant stakeholders and government for more development.
At the signing ceremony held at GCCPC Office, Omar Ceesay, president of The Gambia Transport Union, described the signing of the MoU as very important for them, considering the cordial working relationship with GCCPC.
He explained that as a union, they seek to promote the welfare of members as well as promote transport in trade, as he put it ‘without trade there will be no transport.’
Ceesay indicated that with the collaboration, they would solve many issues affecting trade, further expressing their resolve to support GCCPC in serving the people and supporting government’s efforts.
For his part, Amadou Ceesay, Executive Director of The Gambia Competition Consumer Protection Commission, described transport as important in their work.
He however, bemoaned issues affecting transportation in trade, noting that the latter is the eye and will of the people.
“We will take necessary action towards issues that are anti competition and anti consumers.”
He stated that they will hold periodic meetings and engagements for the effective implementation of the MOU.
