She made this remark as part of activities marking International Women's Day (IWD), a global day celebrated on 8th March to recognise the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
“As the first-ever female deputy managing director of GPA, I want to share my story as an inspiration for young female employees of GPA in commemoration of International Women's Day.” she said
“It is a very big title, no doubt, with interesting but challenging and emotional encounters along this long journey, to my achievement. Being employed as a young female high school graduate in a male-dominated institution, it was a pride to work closely with a few well-educated male professionals, who inspired and motivated me to develop my career in ports and shipping. It became a challenge to beat all odds in order to prove myself.” she said.
Macduoall rose through the ranks from statistics clerk, marketing officer, corporate services officer, corporate services manager, and director of corporate services and business development before becoming deputy managing director at the authority.
“It might interest you to know that as a woman, I was the first to occupy all these positions within the traffic, commercial and corporate services and business development departments.” she added.
“As the only statistics clerk, responsible for compiling port statistics, manifest summary, and the collation of data from the stevedore unit, it was usually a tedious task but what I enjoyed most was going on board vessels to get stowage plans and to go down the hatches prior to discharging of cargo because gifts were received during boarding and lunch served by the captain at most times.”
To this end, she thanked GPA women for their hard work and support in port development. “We are a pride in nation building and I am so proud to stand here to share my story.” she added.
