The Information Technology and Communication Association (ITCA) at the University of The Gambia (UTG) recently paid a courtesy visit to the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) to discuss a strategic partnership aimed at improving service delivery through technology.

The meeting explored ways to leverage innovation to modernize The Gambia's immigration system. At the centre of discussions were technology-driven solutions including a digital appointment booking system, queuing management system and migration tracking system.

The two sides also discussed how technology, data and research can be applied to address irregular migration challenges.

Other areas explored included capacity-building in digital skills such as data analysis, data management, information and communications technology and emerging technologies.

The students also solicited internships, attachments and other placements, technical support, and collaborative technology projects that would provide practical experience for students while contributing to improved service delivery at GID.

Meanwhile, the GID encouraged UTG-ITCA to develop and formally submit a comprehensive proposal outlining the identified areas of collaboration, which will serve as a foundation for further discussions towards a possible formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
