He made the remarks at a recent training for media personnel and Civil Society Organisations held at NaNA conference hall.
He pointed out that election is the business of all, noting that the commission wishes to fully collaborate with all stakeholders in the electoral process.
“We are committed to promote and conduct free and fair elections based on democratic principles and practices,” he stated.
“The Commission has taken steps to support the media in delivering its mandate to the public,” he also said.
He said they regard the media and CSOs as key partners of the IEC, saying both the media and CSOs have played very positive roles in the success of previous elections especially in the domain of information dissemination.
“Advocacy helps to boost citizen participation in electoral processes,” he further said.
The 2023 Local Government Elections will be held on two separate dates. Election of Councilors will be held on Saturday, 15th April 2023 while election of Mayors/Chairpersons will be held on Saturday 20th May, 2023.
The chairperson said these elections will avail Gambians the opportunity to elect 120 Ward Councilors, 6 Area Council Chairpersons and 2 Mayors.
