The new boreholes were funded entirely by Humanity First International, a UK- based charity providing relief support to vulnerable communities.
At the presentation ceremony, Kawsu Kinteh, chairman of Humanity First Gambia Branch, expressed delight in handing over the boreholes to the communities.
He reminded that the main objective of Humanity First is to serve mankind irrespective of religion, political affiliation, racial or any form of social integration.
He thus urged beneficiaries to take ownership of the boreholes and protect it at all times for the benefit of all, further thanking the office of the governors especially Central River Region and the government of the Gambia for support and logistics.
The Governor of Central River Region, Ousman Bah and his deputy, Sainey Mbye, both acknowledged the contribution of Humanity First in the region, further describing the charity as ‘good and reliable partners’ in development.
“The need for safe and clean drinking water is much needed in the Central River Region and I therefore appealed to other donors and philanthropist to come forward and assist in this crusade.”
The Governor finally thanked Humanity First The Gambia for their services to mankind and promised that the boreholes would serve their purpose.”
The Alkalo of Jonkell in the West Coast Region, thanked Humanity First Gambia for providing access to clean drinking water to them; which they have been yearning for, for more than two decades.
Also speaking, Mrs Aja Binta Bah on behalf of the women group, expressed delight with the project and prayed for its sustainability. The project, she added, has brought great relief to women and children.
Elsewhere, residents in Central River and Upper River Regions communities of Santanto, Wurman, Sinchu Faramba, Wassadou, Jimara and among others, all expressed delight in having the boreholes in their respective communities.
