GTAFIWU President unhappy with drivers strike

Sep 30, 2022, 11:52 AM

Omar Tourary, President of The Gambia Transport, Agriculture, Food, and Industrial Workers Union (GTAFIWU) has expressed his dissatisfaction with the recent drivers’ strike.

He also called on Government to always consult all transport unions on national issues, rather than consulting only one transport union.

He said the Government is only talking to one transport union, which he said is not fair.

He noted that talking to one union only will not solve the issue of transport in the country.

“I will not use strike to look for a name. I rather sit at home and not be known by anyone,” he stated, saying that anything that has to do with the nation should be tabled before stakeholders for dialogue.

On the issue of bringing down the pump price, Tourary said it should not warrant drivers to go on a sit-down strike.

“I will never try to cripple the economics of the country or put on my own people under the stress of no vehicles to go about their businesses,” he added.
