Gambia Senior Secondary School (GSSS) recently held its much-anticipated Graduation and 66th Annual Prize-Giving Ceremony to honour the Class of 2025 for their academic and extracurricular accomplishments. The event drew a distinguished audience, including school officials, parents, students, and alumni.

In his opening remarks, Principal Momodou Baba Jallow expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Almighty for granting him the strength to witness yet another milestone in the school’s proud history. He also extended appreciation to the Board of Governors for their steadfast support in restoring GSSS’s reputation as a beacon of academic excellence.

Reflecting on the 2025 academic year, Mr Jallow highlighted several key achievements, including the introduction of online student registration and digital access to examination results; innovations aimed at enhancing transparency and accessibility for both students and parents.

The Principal also commended the school’s performance in extracurricular activities. He proudly noted the ASPNet Club’s participation in an environmental quiz and the school’s impressive third-place finish in a national mathematics competition organised by the University of The Gambia’s Young Mathematicians Association.

Addressing continuing students in Grades 10 and 11, Mr Jallow reminded them that the torch of leadership had now been passed to them. He encouraged them to remain focused despite societal distractions and to foster respectful relationships with their teachers.

Emphasising the importance of personal responsibility, he urged students to strike a balance between enjoying their youth and preparing diligently for their futures.

The ceremony also recognised the invaluable contributions of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). Mr Jallow appealed to parents to deepen their involvement in their children’s education, citing evidence that active parental engagement significantly improves academic performance and student motivation.

Delivering the keynote address was Bai Madi Ceesay, a proud alumnus of the GSSS Class of 1995. In his inspiring speech to the graduating students, he redefined success:

“Don’t just chase a life that looks good—build one that feels right. And never forget, this country needs you.”

His message underscored the importance of values, integrity, and character as the foundation for lasting success in an ever-evolving world.
