The 10-day training held at Fadema Multimedia, seeks to arm participants with the requisite knowledge and insights into processing, labelling and packaging of agro-foods using cereals, nuts, herbs and other vegetables.
At the closing ceremony, Abdou Sula Bojang, highlighted the importance of the training, saying the event exposed participants to 14 different agro-food items.
He revealed that the youth organisation is not only into training members, but also helps in guiding members after the training by monitoring how their business is doing in the markets.
He spoke of their resolve to offer coaching or mentorship programme to organisations in the country so as to enhance the effective promotion of food processing in The Gambia.
Babucarr Kebbeh, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gambia Start-up Chamber of Commerce, applauded the trainees for their dedication and commitment.
The capacity building, he added, would enable the participants in their day-to-day activities, saying GSCC now expect participants to grow and work towards creating employment for others by aligning with the objectives of GSCC.
He spoke of their efforts to ensure the production and availability of homemade food items by the next trade fair.
He equally expressed resolve to work closely with the Ministry of Higher Education to ensure that start up entrepreneurs, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) are considered in the recent Skill, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SIE) Fund Project launched by President Barrow.
The Executive Director of National Youth Council, Alagie Jarju encouraged participants to work towards realising their objectives and always support one another.
He called on the young entrepreneurs to always liaise with GSCC to link them to grant opportunities to help build up their businesses.
Saikou Sanka Bojang alias Chef Bojang, a renowned Gambia Chef, underscored the importance of producing homemade products, further calling on young entrepreneurs to make the best use of the training to be able to penetrate national and international markets.
“By growing together, we become better together and let’s have the chain and buckle up the chain of developing productivity towards success.”
Awa Touray, a participant, testified that the capacity building has exposed her to new insights especially when it comes to packaging, labelling and that it left an indelible mark in her life.
