Jun 24, 2020, 1:54 PM

Gambia Upper Basic School Grade nine students of the 2020/21 academic year will resume their normal classes today (Wednesday) in all the six educational regions of the country.

In March this year, Gambia Government, through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, made a proclamation that led to the temporal closure of all schools as part of the effort to control the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.

The decision was geared towards encouraging both social and physical distancing within schools.  Students who will resume classes today are directly under the purview of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

Ahead of today’s reopening, a high powered delegation of educationists, led by MoBSE Minister, Claudiana A. Cole and Permanent Secretary, Louis Moses Mendy last week Thursday visited “MRC-Holland Foundation” ongoing Covid-19 renovation and construction of classroom blocks project in Regions one and two.

The main purpose of their visit was to assess ground preparations for today’s resumption of Grade 9 classes.

According to information from the ministry’s Information Office, Minister Cole and her top officials will commence visit to Upper Basic Schools from Regions1 in Kanifing to 4 in Mansakonko.

The first team which include Minister Cole and team will visit schools in Banjul, PS Mendy and team will be within Kanifing and Region 2, DPS Jere Sanyang and team will visit schools in Foni today and on Thursday and PS Mendy will join DPS Sanyang to continue the visit to some schools in Region 4 in Lower River Region, while DPS Adama Jimba Jobe and team will be in North Bank Region.
