A thirteen-member team of the Global Youth Parliament (GYP) Gambia chapter recently took part in the Global Youth Leadership Summit held from 18th to 21st November in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The global youth summit gathered young leaders, innovators, peacemakers, youth activists, and civil society pioneers from around the world in a single forum to share their contributions experiences, and knowledge on pertinent global issues.

This year’s summit is anchored on the themes: ‘climate change, diplomacy, peace, entrepreneurship, education, and youth participation in politics.’

The objective of the summit is to inspire individuals from around the world and recognise their contribution that has added value to creative endeavors in serving humanity; to create a common platform to empower the youth network within the world, and motivate young people to be good leaders in their respective countries.

The Secretary General of the Global Youth Gambia chapter, Pa Modou Cham said it is paramount for young people of the country to take charge of their developmental issues at the global level.

“Such trip to Nepal will boost our understanding, commitment, strength, and way forward in achieving our common goal as an organisation. We applaud every delegate for the opportunity and encourage you to uphold the principle of ‘Global Change Makers’ and as well, be law-abiding, trustworthy, and promote probity at all times.” he said

The summit, he added, would also avail a platform for young leaders from the world to share and learn about best practices through mutual learning on ideas and initiatives of advocacy tools to achieve sustainable development goals from the youth perspectives.

Two GYP members from The Gambia are also expected to receive awards based on their understanding of contributions to GYP Gambia.
