The Ghanaian military contingent GHANCOY 9, serving under the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG), has extended a generous hand to Farafenni Senior Secondary School through a donation of essential educational and hygiene supplies.

The donation, made on Thursday 31 July 2025, forms part of GHANCOY 9’s civil-military cooperation initiative aimed at strengthening ties with local communities and supporting youth development.

Led by Lieutenant Colonel Ronne Yaw Agbemafle, the team provided a range of items including stationery, textbooks, and sanitary products. The gesture is particularly focused on supporting female students, promoting both academic success and personal well-being.

“This initiative is not just about delivering supplies,” Lt. Col. Agbemafle remarked. “It reflects our commitment to building strong relationships with the community, encouraging girls to remain in school, and contributing positively to society.”

The Principal of Farafenni Senior Secondary School, Mr Abdou Gigo, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the donation, describing it as timely and impactful.

“These resources will significantly enhance our students’ learning experience and personal development,” Mr Gigo said.

A highlight of the event was a lecture on menstrual hygiene delivered by Captain Victoria Yayira Galley. The session aimed to educate female students on proper menstrual health, reduce stigma, and empower young girls to feel confident and stay in school.

This outreach forms part of ECOMIG’s broader mission to promote peace, stability, and community development across The Gambia. GHANCOY 9’s efforts underscore the importance of collaboration between peacekeeping forces and local institutions in fostering long-term societal progress.
