
In 2024, the Commission obtained support from the Commonwealth Secretariat and is currently reviewing the two Acts. The EU is also supporting the Commission to develop a merger regulation. These will enhance the capacity of the Gambia Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to effectively enforce competition and protect consumers from unfair and misleading market practices by businesses.
On market studies, the Commission conducted an investigation on the abuse of dominance by Gam Petroleum Storage facility, and another investigation into the shortage and drastic price hike Normal Saline. GCCPC also took part in a cross-country digital market study initiated by the ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority. The study focused on the competition and consumer protection issues in digital finance and e-commerce in ECOWAS member countries. Additionally, the Commission concluded and validated the study on competition and consumer issues in basic and secondary schools in the country. The Commission has now set up a committee to work on the implementation of the recommendations.
