In a bid to complement government’s effort in the health delivery system, Gambian philanthropist, Maria Gillen through her organisation- International Humanitarian Programme at Global Orphan Empowerment Academic (IHPGOEA) recently extended magnanimity to the Kanifing General Hospital with the donation of furniture worth over D334,000.

The donation was necessitated during a visit to the hospital by the donor for services during which she realised that the hospital needed support in some areas.

Welcoming the donors, Baboucarr Saine, Administrator of Kanifing General Hospital, commended the Gillen family for the gesture, which he described as laudable.

“This is not the beginning of our relation with the Gillen family. Some months ago, they sponsored the renovation of our laboratory department. So we as an institution, we are very grateful to them.”

Marie Gillen, executive director of International Humanitarian Programme at Global Empowerment Academic (IHPGOEA), thanked the management and staff of the hospital for their dedication and hardwork, adding that as Gambians, they felt it incumbent upon them to contribute their quota to national development.
