
The exercise was aimed at ensuring hygiene at the clinic, while also promoting environmental sanity, good health and inculcating good environmental practices amongst the people.
Set up to promote the welfare of its members, The GAF Intake 29 Alpha Solidarity Association since inception has been instrumental in fulfilling its social responsibility, through active involvement in community services.
The exercise also aims to promote a culture of cleanlines and community participation to keep their surroundings clean and healthy in contributing to National development and Environmental sustainability.
Armed with brooms, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and a strong sense of community spirit, members of GAF Intake 29 Alpha Association and other volunteers, worked vigorously to desilt clogged drains and gutters as well as clear weeds.
At the event, Ansumana Sanyang, Information and Public Relations Officer, Intake 29 Alpha Solidarity Association, dwelled on the motive behind the formation of the association, saying the cleansing exercise was meant to inculcate a sense of community service with the sole idea contributing to environmental sustainability.
IPRO Sanyang also underscored the importance of a clean environment in any development initiative and thanked members for their service to community.
The acting head of the Infection Prevention and Control Unit at Ndemban Clinic, Alhagie Foday Janko hailed the initiative, citing the link between a clean environment and health.
Mr Janko maintained that a clean environment is next to a healthy environment, while ensuring long life for people.
The cleanup, he added, was going to be done regularly to ensure a save a conducive environment.
The Adopted father of the Association, Dr Ousainou Mahanera also highlighted the need to ensure good sanitation at all times, making reference to a popular adage that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation.
