
The event forms part of efforts designed to raise awareness and to identify people living with haemophilia. The participatory training brought 12 participants together include 2 Doctors, 7 Lab experts, 2 Nurses, and one patient.
The NOVO Nordisk Haemophilia foundation NNHF is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving access to care for people with bleeding disorders in low- and middle- income countries. Established in 2005 in Zurich, Switzerland, the NNHF is mainly funded by Novo Nordisk while also receiving donations from other organisations and private benefactors, 100% of which are allocated to projects.
At the event, Vandy Jayah Chief Executive Officer Safe Motherhood and Haemophilia Foundation in the Gambia, hailed the sponsors of this important training being hosted in the Gambia.
“We appreciate and acknowledge the efforts of the organisers in bringing this training to the Gambia with a view to creating awareness in vulnerable communities.”
He underscored the significance attached to the training, further describing it as ‘timely and worthy’ in view of the fact that haemophilia diseases have been neglected in the Gambia.
“But considering the negative impact, creating awareness is key to fight against this menace.”
Thus, he urged participants to participate actively during the three days training as important information will be shared for onward distribution to the most vulnerable in our societies.
For his part, Dr. Salifu Gaye from Edward Small Teaching Hospital, expressed similar sentiments, further thanking the host and NNHF for choosing the Gambia to host this important training.
He equally encouraged the participants to make the best use of the knowledge gained during these last three days.
Other speakers include Dr. NTAM Samwel Medical Doctor; Bio-medical Scientist, Head Diagnostic and Training Haemophili Foundation -Uganda, Chrison Mari Sierra Leone.
Meanwhile, the NNHF funds projects to build for diagnosis and care, encouraging its partners to join forces for sustainable impact and systemic change. In the same vein, they empower people with haemophilia and allied disorders to raise awareness, advocate with a united voice and live full lives. The non-profit organisation has been a trusted partner to the global haemophilia community since its creation in 2005.
