The four suspects, all Gambians are Pa Badjie, Muhammed Sillah, Basirou Mballow and Mawdo Keita. They are charged with conspiracy to deal with prohibited drugs, possession of prohibited drugs, aggravated drug trafficking and dealing with prohibited drugs.
When the case was called, prosecutor N. Jammeh announced his appearance for the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG).
The first suspect, Pa Badjie, pleaded guilty to count one which include conspiracy to deal with prohibited drugs and count two two of having drugs in his control for the purpose of drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, the second accused Muhammed Sillah also pleaded guilty to counts one, two and three which also include: conspiracy to dealing with prohibited drugs, contrary to section 53 (1) (a) of the drug control Act 2003 cap 13:05 vol 3 laws of the Gambia, possession of prohibited drugs for the purpose of drug trafficking contrary to section 43 (4) of the drug control Act 2005 and aggravated drug trafficking.
The prosecution also charged Basirou Mballow and Mawdo Keita respectively for being in possession of prohibited drugs for the purpose of drug trafficking.
The prosecutor alleged that on the 8th and 9th days of March 2024, at Basse and its diverse places in the Upper River Region, Basirou Mballow and Mawdo Keita possessed 19kg, 700g and 9kg, 600g of cannabis sativa which is a prohibited drug.
When the charge was read to them, they both pleaded guilty.
The prosecutor, therefore, sought an adjournment which was subsequently granted by the presiding Magistrate.
In his ruling, Magistrate Sambou ordered for the four accused to be remanded in Mile 2.
The case was adjourned to 15 November, 2024 for the prosecution to present his facts.
