The event was held at the school ground in Kanifing and brought together students who were also taken through presentations on financial literacy.
FirstBank which has been operating in The Gambia for ten years now, was established in 1894 formerly as British Bank of West Africa.
Speaking with The Point, Alasana Jabby, FirstBank Gambia Executive Director, explained that the outreach programme was designed to show kindness as corporate citizens with responsibilities, which are manifested in different ways.
This, he said, include giving back and showing love to the society, especially to the young ones who are the future leaders.
“So, we want to teach them the significance of kindness which will help them grow with that philosophy. Kindness is everything. If you are kind, you can build a nation and people will come to you for advice on issues pertaining to their lives.” he said.
He noted that all this is geared towards inculcating kindness in students, noting that they want to build a nation that is full of kindness, a nation that will give back to the nation.
“As you catch children young with anything, they tend to grow with it, this is why we have decided to choose this place today for this particular outreach program.”
The activity, he added, was also to inform them about the Bank principles which he said, was built on professionalism, kindness, justice and honesty, also teach them the importance of earning clean money.
Olubukola Sanni, Country Head Operations and Services of FirstBank Gambia, revealed that the move is also showing that kindness can go a long way to changing the manner children behave.
“We need to extend a hand of kindness to each other that will help impact the behavior of the other person,” she said.
As students learn about financial literacy, she said, they will be able to understand how to utilise the little money they get and turn it around substantially into something they can use to help, not only at the school level, but at other levels.
This, she said, will also guide and help them to appreciate their parents’ efforts in meeting their needs at home level.
