The opening ceremony was presided over by Alieu Njie, Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service, with CRR Governor Ousman Bah in attendance. The session was chaired by Louis Moses Mendy, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology and the MRC Holland Foundation also participating.
The five-day meeting focused on reviewing education sector achievements, identifying challenges, and formulating strategies to improve teaching, learning, and accountability. Presentations and plenary discussions were followed by school monitoring visits across Region 5 South.
Eighteen schools were visited, assessing teaching quality, infrastructure, and management. Armitage Senior Secondary School recorded the highest score of 86.2 out of 96.5, while some schools scored lower, highlighting the need for targeted support.
Participants presented their findings and recommendations to strengthen service delivery and collaboration. The meeting also reviewed the 2025 GABECE and WASSCE results, which were described as inconsistent and unsatisfactory.
Updates from the Gambia Teachers’Union showed that applications for the NAMIE Teacher Prize remain open until December . The CCM reaffirmed its role as a platform for improving coordination, accountability, and evidence-based decision-making to enhance education outcomes nationwide. The venue for the next CCM will be announced in due course.
