The 10th successor of Don Bosco Catholic Missionary Congregation over the weekend visited The Gambia as part of his duty to familiarize with the people he is serving, following his recent ordination as a cardinal.

Rector Major Cardinal Angel Fernandez was on Friday received at the Banjul International Airport by the Bishop of Banjul. He later proceeded to Kunkujang Mariama in Kombo South District where he held church services and other important congregations with natives of the community.

The visit, according to Cardinal Major Fernandez is to familiarize himself with the people he is currently serving as head of the Don Bosco Catholic congregation. He stressed that The Gambia being the most tolerant religious country deserves the visit. He also recognised the unprecedented welcome ceremony accorded to him.

“My visit is mainly to familiarize myself with the people I am serving as the newly ordained Cardinal. And besides, I must confirm that I have never received such an unprecedented welcoming”, he said.

“The Gambia is one of the most religious tolerant countries I have ever visited since my ordination. I think that is why they deserved the visit since it is my first time in Africa.”

The Cardinal ended his visit with a series of blessings he accorded to a newly constructed nursery school and a farm land sponsored by the Don Bosco Catholic congregation.
