Late Presiden, Fidel Castro was born in August 1926 and died on 25th November 2016. He was a Cuban revolutionary and politician who led Cuba from 1959 to 2011, serving as the prime minister of Cuba from 1959 to 1976. He became the president of Cuba from 1976 to 2008.
In an interview with The Point on the proposed Remembrance Day, Ambassador Ruben said the day is in fulfillment of Fidel Castro’s legacy and his bravery for serving his nation with strong commitment.
Ambassador Ruben added that the celebration would be held at his residence in Banjul on Saturday 12th August, 2023, a day before the actual date.
He said that “we will continue to continue Fidel Castro here in the country and work together with Gambian people and help them in any ways we can.” “That is the work we are going to do to remember Fidel. We are going to fulfill his legacy. The debt of Cuba is with Africa,” he said.
He explained that due to his qualities and being the science of example, his compatriots will continue to accompany him in the construction and resistance of the Revolution of January 1, 1959, and in his eternal desire that a better world is possible.
Sir Ruben advanced that “I heard a Cuban in Madrid say a few years ago that Fidel Castro represents the unity of his compatriots, which he forged with his invaluable example. He was never awarded a Nobel Prize, nor did he need it, because he will always have the recognition and admiration of the most dispossessed human beings, those who make up the vast majority of the inhabitants of our planet. His convictions and principles, and his actions in accordance with them with his well-known guerrilla attitude, without ever giving in an iota, force his few, but powerful enemies to respect him, and even fear the force of ideas.”
