The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire in The Gambia on the occasion of the commemoration of the 62nd. independence of Côte d’Ivoire in collaboration with the Ivorian community in The Gambia and the Unique Foundation through the Gambia Red Cross Society presented food items and non-food items for onward transmission to the victims of the natural disaster due to the heavy rainfalls experienced in the Gambia.
The honorary consul of Côte d’Ivoire in the Gambia, Papa Yusupha Njie said that ‘In commemorating the anniversary of the Sixty Second Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Côte d’ivoire, this donation reminds us of the values and symbols bequeathed to us by the founding fathers of the republic of Côte D’Ivoire.
‘Our solidarity to the people of The Gambia affected by this disaster is a clear testament of the brotherly bond between the two west African countries over many years.
The Honorary consul and the entire Ivorian community living in the Gambia took the opportunity to pray for the safety, security, and wellbeing of everyone who had been affected by these unfortunate incidents.
A special message of gratitude was also sent to The Gambia Red Cross Society and its volunteers through its Secretary General Alas an Senghore who received the donated items on behalf of the flood victims. The volunteers are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of those living in affected zones or communities.
The ceremony of raising the Côte d’Ivoire flag symbolically on Independence Day was done at the consulate offices in Fajara with members of the executive committee of Ivorians Living in the Gambia, consulate staff and other well-wishers.
In his closing remarks, Papa Yusupha Njie emphasized on his republican statement that ‘These values and symbols are for all of us, a reference point to ensure better living conditions for every Ivorian citizen residing in The Gambia, as well as to promote economic stability and prosperity for all.’
Mr. Njie took the opportunity to express his most distinguished consideration to the Ivorian community living in the Gambia and to all friends of Côte d’Ivoire around the world.
