The Confederation of Gambian Industries (CGI) warmly welcomes the inauguration of The Gambia’s first-ever Food and Drug Laboratories by His Excellency President Adama Barrow, marking a historic milestone in the country’s industrial, public health, and economic development journey.

The establishment of these laboratories represents a transformational achievement that will strengthen quality assurance systems, enhance consumer protection, and support the growth and competitiveness of Gambian industries.

CGI commends the President’s commitment to ensuring that all citizens have access to safe, high-quality medicines and consumer products. The new facilities will provide critical testing, inspection, and certification services that will enable manufacturers to verify compliance with national and international standards locally.

For decades, Gambian manufacturers have faced challenges associated with accessing laboratory testing and certification services outside the country.

The availability of these services domestically will reduce costs, improve efficiency, accelerate product approvals, and create a more enabling environment for industrial growth.
