Gambia Revenue Authority Commissioner of Customs Alhagie K. Mbye has extolled the Finance and Audit Committee of the World Customs Organization for West and Central Africa (WCO-WCA) for carrying out their duties and responsibilities with maximum diligence and professionalism.

Mr Mbye showered the words of praise and commendation on members of the Finance and Audit (FA) Committee at the recent commencement of the long-awaited WCO-WCA Directors of Customs conference on Thursday.

The FA Committee’s meeting of 27 and 28 April was a prelude to the 29th International Conference of Directors General of Customs for West and Central Africa slated for 4 and 5 May 2023.

As part of the events marking this year’s convergence, another meeting by the Experts Committee took place on 2 and 3 May 2023, following the Finance and Audit Committee’s meeting.

The theme for this year’s International Conference is: Nurturing the Next Generation by Promoting a Culture of Knowledge Sharing and Professional Pride in Customs.

In his statement on the occasion, Mr Mbye expressed profound gratitude and appreciation to the organising committee for the colourful event and experts of the WCO-WCA for making time to attend.

“Going forward, I want to go further to register our excitement for playing host to this important meeting,” he said.

“Therefore, on behalf of the Commissioner General, the Board of Directors and the entire GRA management, you are warmly welcome to The Gambia the Smiling Coast of Arica.”

The GRA Commissioner of Customs further seized the opportunity to thank the office of the Vice Chair for the “tremendous support” during the conference preparation.

The FA Committee of the WCO-WCA region are known for their professionalism and expertise, he noted, saying: “The Finance and Audit Committee, in my observation, is the only committee in which when they are presenting the financial statements and evaluation, nobody sleeps because the issues raised are interesting and contentious. And more interestingly the manner in which the presentation is done, even the lay man will fully understand every bit of the statements.”

Based on this ground, Mr Mbye once more welcomed the delegates to The Gambia and encouraged them to take the opportunity to explore the country’s fine beaches and the hospitality of the communities.
