The initiative is one of numerous community parks the KMC leadership has laid in recent days. The community parks are part of the ongoing 180 million dalasis Kanifing Environmental Transformation Programme (KETP).
The project is funded by the European Union and being implemented by KMC.
KETP aims to use a sustainable focus on a new integrated waste management approach to drive environmental, social, and economic transformation of Kanifing.
The community park comprises a football pitch, basketball pitch, kids’ playground, gym center, among others. It aims to promote and develop grassroots sports within the municipality.
In his remarks, he expressed delight with the Bakoteh Ward Councilor for supporting KMC to implement its developmental projects in the area.
He said the sports facility is geared toward empowering young people and all sports enthusiasts within the Municipality.
He expressed KMC's commitment to empowering young people through sports so that they attain their various goals.
Papa Jassey, Alkalo of Bakoteh described the community park as essential to youth empowerment.
He said their sports facility has been in poor condition for about four decades but was quick to add that its construction is a step in the right direction.
He commended Mayor Bensouda and the Bakoteh Ward Councilor for what he described as a milestone development in the area.
Sainey Beyai, Sports Chairman for Bakoteh described the sports facility as paramount for the young people in the area.
He said it will go a long way in helping young people to attain their sports aspirations.
Thus, he expressed Bakoteh willingness to support Mayor Bensouda in his political career, saying: "We will rally behind you (Bensouda) forever,"
He said the KM leader has fulfilled all the promises he made during his campaign in 2017, citing the fence of the Bakoteh dumpsite, laying the foundation stone of the community park, “mballit” trucks, and other projects implemented in the community.
The community sports chairman commended the Ward Councilor and Mayor Bensouda for what he called immense development in the area.
