The Balance Youth of Month/Year Award is one of the largest youth competition aimed
at promoting and recognising the role and participation of the youth in national
development. The competition has over the years generated lot of interest and
participation of youth since the last award in 2017.
This year’s competition featured 5 shortlisted nominees, after making it to the rounds
of the first ever ‘youth development’ debate, held at GRTS premises.
Baba Ceesay, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Balance Crew said his organisation seeks to
ensure young people contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of The Gambia.
The nominees were oriented about this year’s Youth of Month/Year Award inanticipation of a familiarisation tour of the competition. However, Ceesay said they will spend time in every region and brief them about the program as well as discuss relevant issues of development.
He noted that Sanyang, Sukuta and Yundum are selected in West Coast Region for nominees to conduct surveys and initiate feasible projects on how the communities can attain a sustainable development.
According to him, in 2015 they won a five million dalasi EU project on climate change and coastal zone management sensitisation and awareness conducted in partnership with The Gambia Radio and Television Services (GRTS).
