The Bakau Islamic Development Foundation last Friday 6th March extended magnanimity to local communities with the presentation of food items as part of its annual Ramadan charity.

The food items which included bags of rice, sugar and cooking oil, targeted 85 households mostly needy households and widows.

The initiative forms part of efforts aimed at easing the burden of the holy month for struggling families.

At the presentation ceremony, Alhagie Nuha Touray, president of the Foundation, recalled that the organisation was established to encourage community members to support one another, especially those facing hardship.

The foundation, he added, was not created solely to provide assistance during Ramadan but to extend support throughout the year to people in need.

“Our intention is to come together and support each other with the little that Allah has blessed us with.’’

Imam Touray spoke of his organisation’s resolve to contribute what they can to assist the poor, especially widows and others who are going through difficulties

He added that the foundation also aims to reach out to patients in hospitals, support mosques with their needs, and provide assistance to children who have lost their fathers.

He reminded that assisting those in need is one of the key teachings of Islam, while encouraging other to join hands with them in ameliorating the hardships most families are currently going through.

Also speaking, Imam Alieu Touray, vice president of the foundation, expressed similar sentiments.

The foundation, he added, has grown steadily since its establishment and the Ramadan food distribution has become an important part of its activities.

For his part, Imam Seedy Joof also encouraged community members and well-wishers to support the foundation in its efforts to assist those in need.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the foundation for the support, acknowledging that the assistance has helped many families during Ramadan.

Meanwhile, the foundation remains committed to strengthening community support and continuing its humanitarian efforts beyond the Ramadan period.
