Kaddy Jawara, a revenue collector at Brikama Area Council, who appeared before the Local Government Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday, was questioned over unaccounted revenue.

The commission is conducting a full and impartial investigation into the fiscal and administrative activities of the local government administrations between May 2018 and January 2023.

Presently, its institutional hearing is focused on the Brikama Area Council.

In her introductory remarks, Madam Jawara recalled she began working at the Brikama Area Council in 2004.

Her cash book covering 2017 to 2020 was tendered and admitted in evidence.

When asked about the unaccounted D11,300, she responded. “I have seen the audit query and I have repaid the money since November 2023. I have the receipts with me."

Further asked to explain the rationale behind the shortage, she said her receipts were lost and she managed to see only one.

She added that she had to repay the money, further informing commissioners that between 2017 and 2022, she made payments to the principal cashier.
