African journalists oriented on China’s Media Business Management Industry

African media personnel who are currently in China for a 2-week seminar were recently equipped on the Business Management in the Media Industry of China.

They were taken through the topic by various Chinese professors.

The China’s Media Business Management Industry lecture was held on Saturday, 2nd November, 2024 and delivered by Professor Tian Zhongchu of Zhejiang Gongshang University who is also the Senior Editor, Xu Xiao’en of Zhejiang Daily Press of China.

The lecture was held at the conference room of the Zhejiang Normal University (ZJNU), Zhejiang Province in Jinhua City.

The seminar, which began on Thursday 31 October 2024, was organised by the Zhejiang Normal University and sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), of People’s Republic of China.

Objectives of the forum include exchanges with African journalists to enhance the understanding of Chinese and African media in the language and culture.

In his slide presentation, Professor Tian Zhongchu highlighted the current opinion situation being faced in China, adding that new media has emerged as a rising force, noting that the era of all media has arrived.

Speaking further on the current public opinion situation, he revealed that by June 2024, the number of internet users in China had reached near 1.1billion (1.09967), an increase of 7.42 million over December, 2023 and the internet penetration rate has reached 78.0%.

He explained that the dissemination pattern has also gone through profound changes which include Network Media, Madia Network, Media Popularization and there is media everywhere, making everyone a journalist.

However, he said that Ideology is an extremely important task.

Professor Tian further highlighted the path of media reform and development in China stretching forward along the progressive logic.

He underlined that the mainstream media must keep up with the times, boldly use new technologies, mechanisms, and models, accelerating the pace of integrated development, achieve maximum and optimal publicity effect. He mentioned that the local branch of Zhejiang Daily has undergone a transformation.

He further highlighted the need to connect various resources of newspapers, websites, terminals and micro platforms to achieve full media dissemination.

He emphasised that “to be a good all media journalist, we must transform the discourse system and rebuild audience relationships.”
