World Bank appoints new resident rep for Gambia

Effective today, Mr. Franklin Mutahakana is the new World Bank Group (WBG) Resident Representative for The Gambia. This new position unifies country-level leadership across the institution –i.e., the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA)- to better support The Gambia’s public and private sector priorities.

It provides a single point of contact for access to the full breadth of WBG’s products and services and will enhance the institutions’ ability to help the country address its challenges and drive development with speed, efficiency and impact.

A Ugandan national, Mr. Mutahakana joined the World Bank in 2014 and worked as the Senior Operations Officer in the Uganda Country Office.  Prior to joining the World Bank, he worked with the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), the Macroeconomic and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa (MEFMI) both based in Harare, Zimbabwe as well as the Bank of Uganda. 

The World Bank Group’s current portfolio in The Gambia consists of 8 National operations—totaling to $509.50 million in commitments and 7 Regional operations – totaling to $275 million.

Mr. Mutahakana is based in Banjul and succeeds Ms. Feyi Boroffice, who recently completed her term as Resident Representative for The Gambia.

The introduction of joint country representation is an important step towards building a stronger World Bank Group. The Gambia is one of 21 World Bank Group offices transitioning to a single World Bank Group Country Manager or Resident Representative for the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
