Ceesay described the region as the silicon value of the country, saying it has all the resources and therefore its people should not be poor or unemployed.
He made the remarks at Brufut during a meeting with the community elders.
The meeting was meant to seek their blessings which the elders did as well as gave him the green light and prayed for him.
Ceesay, who hosts “Kachadula”, a QTV flagship talk show in Mandinka to dilate on various topics of interest, said he has discussed with everybody in the country particularly chiefs, alkalolu and Village Development Committee members in West Coast Region and have seen and understood the problems. He noted that he want to go hands on and do the job because he thinks it is enough with talking.
He said he will come up with his manifesto and programmes in due course to explain to people of West Coast Region what he wants to do for them.
Ebrima Sillah, an executive member of National People’s Party (NPP), described West Coast Region as a very difficult terrain in terms of politics, saying one has to know how to introduce the type of politics you want to do.
He noted that there was no better way of doing so than going through the Council of Elders.
He highlighted that the engagement will engender their efforts as a party to also bring up candidates they have for the various councils to participate effectively in the elections.
Hon. Sillah who is also the minister for Works, pointed out that Gambian politics is still highly traditional and one has to know the routes to be able to meander through the complex trail.
According to him, they did it in the presidential elections and were successful and hope that they will have a repeat of the same results in Local Government Elections.
He advised NPP general membership to maintain decorum, be respectful to their opponents, be focused and calm as well as fully concentrate on politics, have their eyes on the ball but also ensure they go out and vote.
“It is not enough to take part in the campaign. What is important is to go out and vote for our candidates,” he told NPP supporters.
During the meeting, various elders gave Ceesay their blessings, prayed for him and testified of his competence to lead the Council to success if elected chairman.
