Karim Wadeโs application is said to have been declared inadmissible out of the 21 candidates who had passed the sponsorship stage. He lately relinquished his French citizenship on 16 January 2024, and submitted his candidature before the final scrutiny.
It would be noted that Ousman Sonko was eliminated for being convicted, with a six-month jail suspension and fined CFA 200 million for defaming Senegalese Tourism Minister Mame Mbaye Niang without proof. The supreme court thereby approved the conviction, while another candidate Bassirou Diomaye Faye is remanded since last year.
