The delegation, comprising Cabinet Ministers, the Secretary to Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service, and Permanent Secretaries from various sectors, forms part of the task force that H.E. President Adama Barrow constituted to urgently look into the current energy situation in the country. Members of the committee have continued working since the crisis began, holding meetings on a near-daily basis.
Speaking to journalists at the end of the visit, Vice President Jallow explained that the inspection was a natural extension of the task force's work. He noted that the delegation began at Jabang, the point through which the country receives its imported energy supply, before proceeding to Bijilo, where an ongoing project funded within the framework of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), aimed at improving electricity access.
The Vice President said the task force, established by the President following visits to two key facilities at the height of the crisis, is pursuing solutions along three tracks: immediate interventions to restore normal service and rebuild public confidence, a medium-term plan, and a long-term sustainable strategy for the energy sector. He indicated that Gambians can expect progress on these fronts before October.
VP Jallow appealed for calm and patience from the public, and specifically called on traditional, political, and religious leaders to support the task force's efforts and to condemn attacks on government infrastructure, describing such vigilance as critical to the recovery process.
The site visit underscores the government's continued commitment, under the leadership of President Barrow, to resolving the electricity crisis through coordinated, technically grounded action.
