His Excellency the Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia, Mohammed B.S. Jallow, on behalf of His Excellency President Adama Barrow, has officially handed over groundnut threshers to communities across the country as part of his ongoing nationwide field visit.

The beneficiary communities include Fass Omar Saho, Ndungu Charren, and Kerr Alhagie Karu in the North Bank Region; Jala Koto, Boiram, Simbara Kai, and Jallow Kunda Mat in the Central River Region; Koina, Baja Kunda, and Simoto Touba in the Upper River Region; Medina Sancha, Jappineh, and Sutukung in the Lower River Region; as well as Bondali, Bintang, and Jarrol in the West Coast Region.

The intervention, implemented under the Programme for Accelerated Community Development (PACD), is funded by the Government of The Gambia with support from the United Nations Development Programme.

The presentation ceremony was attended by Governors of the various regions, Deputy Permanent Secretaries from the Office of the Vice President, Seyfolu, community leaders, stakeholders, and beneficiaries.

The provision of the threshers is expected to significantly enhance agricultural productivity by easing post-harvest processing, reducing the labour burden on farmers, improving efficiency, and strengthening livelihoods in the beneficiary communities.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, community representatives expressed gratitude to the Government of The Gambia for the timely support and assured authorities that the machines would be properly maintained and put to productive use for the benefit of their communities.
